Green tea but texturally earthy brown! When you're in the mood for a low-caffeine Houjicha latte, savour this toasty brew with edges of soft caramel notes. Known as the first tea fed to Japanese babies, it defies its Japanese green tea counterparts with a rich reddish-brown hue, coming from being roasted in a porcelain pot over charcoal and high heat, after steaming. This enhances its earthy aroma and smoky sweetness. Rich with nutty, smoky, and toasty notes, our organic blend is fulfilling with a caramel aftertaste. This tea is equally approachable if it’s your first time trying Hojicha, or if you’re a seasoned drinker.

What makes it great
An evolved and naturally sweet Japanese green tea, Houjicha’s warm and toasty flavours make it a great afternoon or evening drink. Due to it’s deep, earthy undertones, it could easily be taken for its caffeinated counterpart! But this ancient green tea originated in Kyoto over a 100 years ago, and is roasted to perfection to give you a cupful of caramel goodness. If you are a lover of Japanese green teas, you’ll surely relish this smooth flavour which lingers beautifully, and is signature only to this tea!

Taste and Aroma Notes
Its toasty notes are best enjoyed across a campfire with friends or after a cozy evening meal. Known for its nutty and smoky fragrances, it’s similar to savouring a fulfilling taste of barley with an oozing caramel ending.

Multiple Infusions
Don't throw away your tea after steeping it! One of the greatest advantage of drinking whole leaf tea is that each serving of leaves can be re-steeped many times.
This tea can be re-steeped 4 times. We recommend using 4 grams of this whole leaf tea for 150ml of water
150 gms= 150 of tea
We recommend returning to any used tea leaves within the day.
